PURPORTED IGNORANCE AND CLAIMED COERCION FOR PARTICIPATION IN PROTEST AGAINST GOV MUTFWANG’S DEFECTION FROM THE PDP TO THE APC: A REJOINDER
24th December, 2025
Our attention has been drawn to an interview purportedly granted by some carefully selected but faceless women who spoke to Daily Post on condition of anonymity to the effect that they lacked the knowledge and or information about the protest organized against the defection of gov Mutfwang from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress Party (APC) in Plateau State, and that they were coerced into participation by the State’s Women Wing, Hon. Elizabeth Samson Yerse to do so, which they believed the defection was in the best interest of the party.
To put the records straight for clarity, the widespread protests organized against gov Mutfwang’s defection was the unanimous decision of wisdom-inclined, matured, highly responsible, highly recognized, courageous, dogged and barefaced women of the All Progressives Congress Party in Plateau State. The mobilization was not only massive but was successful, empty of resistance and intimidation from any quarters.
Hon. Elizabeth Samson Yerse is a personality of proven integrity with impeccable credentials whose citation has been written and read overtime time as a woman of substance with a rare organizational capability and mobilization prowess. She’s not just a democrat of consequential magnitude, but a politician of maximum precision who understands the dynamics of politics. She is a team player who is knowledgeable about party politics and a trailblazing leader with greater respect for the rule of law and human dignity, who holds the firm believe in the equality of opportunity for visibility, the fundamental rights to association/participation, freedom of speech and freedom of press as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution and our law. She detests all forms of coercion in advancing a cause of action. Her strong believe in the ability of humanity to overcome adversity is unhidden gospel and remains unshaken, and her transparent conscience could have arrested her from embarking on such a wasteful venture.
It is therefore worthy of note, that the so-called faceless women who purportedly granted the interview were nothing but willing tools and mere commissioned agents who worked for their pay and walked away, leaving their paymasters, listeners, readers and the general public in more troubling puzzles. It is a disturbing scenario which when allowed to flourish, has the potentials to infringe on developmental politics and participatory democracy. It is an undesirable distraction aimed to create rivalry and divide the ranks of our highly dignified and highly treasured women in the party but which has crashed like a pack of cards.
We strongly urge our visionary women and the entire membership of the All Progressives Congress Party in Plateau State, lovers of democracy and Nigerians to disregard this baseless adventure and dismiss it just with waves of the hands.
