RON-KULERE YOUTH CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF THE RENEWED HOPE PEACE & UNITY TOURNAMENT



The grand finale of the Renewed Hope Peace and Unity Inter-Tribal Football Competition was successfully concluded on 1st January 2026, featuring an exciting showdown between Pyem Youth and Ron-Kulere Youth. The competition once again underscored the power of sports as a unifying force and a catalyst for peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.

Proceedings commenced with opening remarks from the Plateau Development Association Network (PDAN), Plateau Central, delivered by its Secretary, Mr. Shikgura Dangwan, on behalf of the Chairman. He commended the convener, Comrade Walshak Kefas Danjuma, for initiating what he described as a timely and impactful programme aimed at strengthening inter-tribal harmony. This was followed by an opening prayer led by Rev. Emmanuel Disa, representing the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Gindiri Chapter.

In his address, the Chairman of the Football Committee, Engr. Fukji Gorip, appreciated committee members, partners, and supporters whose collective efforts ensured the smooth organization of the tournament. The convener, Comrade Walshak Kefas Danjuma, also welcomed dignitaries and spectators, expressing gratitude to the participating communities for their massive support and enthusiasm throughout the competition. Goodwill messages were further conveyed by a representative of the Member representing Mangu South Constituency, through his Legislative Aide.

The final match kicked off at 4:10 pm, with Ron-Kulere Youth opening the scoring at 4:30 pm to take a 1–0 lead into halftime. The second half resumed at 4:50 pm, and Ron-Kulere Youth extended their advantage with a second goal at 5:15 pm, securing a convincing 2–0 victory at full time.

The event attracted notable dignitaries, including representatives of GNI led by Mallam Mahadi, Squadron Commander Panshak Zumka, Commander FOB Gyembus, and Comrade D. G. Jipal, Personal Assistant to Yari Kumchi, who donated ₦50,000 in support of the tournament. Additional goodwill messages and donations came from Legislative Aides representing Mangu North East and Kanke LGAs, CAN Gindiri, JNI representatives, Teacher David Bashir, Hon. Pakachi, and Hon. Elisha Bitrus Shehu, former Plateau State Commissioner for Environment, who donated ₦10,000 each to the teams and organizing committee.


Outstanding participants were recognized with awards for highest goal scorers, best goalkeeper, best coach, most disciplined team, best player, and ball boys. At the close of the tournament, Ron-Kulere Youth emerged champions and received ₦50,000, Pyem Youth placed second with ₦30,000, while Rumada Youth finished third with ₦20,000.

The tournament concluded peacefully with a closing prayer by the CAN representative, reinforcing the enduring message of peace, unity, and inter-tribal harmony that defined the entire competition.
