PLATEAU APC RECEPTION, LALU HAILS GOVERNOR MUTFWANG’S DEFECTION AS MAJOR BOOST FOR STATE DEVELOPMENT

Plateau State was thrown into excitement on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, as Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, officially received the Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The historic event, held at the Polo Field in Jos, attracted a massive crowd of party supporters, political leaders, and residents across the state, transforming the venue into a colourful display of celebration and political solidarity.

Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Shettima described Governor Mutfwang’s decision to join the APC as a strong statement of confidence in the ruling party. He noted that the move further affirms the APC as a national platform, open to all Nigerians committed to unity, peace, and inclusive development.

The APC remains the destination for citizens who believe in a united future for Nigeria,” Shettima said. “Governor Mutfwang’s decision reflects our shared commitment to national unity and inclusive governance.”

He also reassured party faithful that the APC-led government remains focused on strengthening national cohesion and delivering development that transcends regional, ethnic, and political boundaries.

The event was graced by several high-profile political figures, underscoring its national importance. Among those present were the President of the Senate, His Excellency Godswill Akpabio; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas; governors; lawmakers; top APC leaders; and other key stakeholders from within and outside Plateau State.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Hon. Ishaya David Lalu, PhD, the Member representing Mangu/Bokkos Federal Constituency, described Governor Mutfwang’s defection to the APC as a personal and constituency-level milestone. Notably, Governor Mutfwang hails from the same constituency represented by Hon. Lalu.

In a closed-door interview, Hon. Lalu said the governor’s entry into the APC was, in his words, “my own constituency project,” stressing that it would significantly strengthen political alignment and cooperation between the state and the federal government.

According to him, the unity of purpose among APC leaders in Plateau State would open doors for major development initiatives and attract large-scale projects capable of transforming the state’s economy and infrastructure.
“With this level of collaboration among leaders, Plateau State is better positioned to secure mega projects that will directly benefit our people,” Hon. Lalu said.

Governor Mutfwang’s defection is widely regarded as a major political development in Plateau State and is expected to reshape the state’s political landscape ahead of future elections.

The atmosphere at the Polo Field remained festive throughout the event, with chants, music, and expressions of optimism as supporters welcomed what many described as a new chapter for Plateau State within the APC family.
