Gov. Mutfwang’s Defection Strengthens APC’s Hold in North-Central

Gov. Mutfwang Joins APC, Says Plateau Is Ready to Stand with Tinubu in 2027
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the state is fully prepared to align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and deliver massive electoral support in the 2027 general elections. The historic political realignment was sealed at a well-attended reception in Jos, drawing top national leaders of the APC and a cross-section of stakeholders from across Plateau State.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Mutfwang described his decision as a bold and necessary step taken in the overall interest of Plateau State. He said the APC represents a party of national inclusion, stability, and progress, stressing that effective governance requires synergy between the states and the federal government. According to him, Plateau State can no longer afford political isolation at a time when strategic cooperation is needed to unlock development.

This is not about party symbols; it is about the future of Plateau State. The APC has shown that it is a platform where every Nigerian, including minorities, has a voice. Plateau is ready to work with the centre for the good of our people,” Governor Mutfwang said.

He further assured President Tinubu of the loyalty and support of Plateau State ahead of 2027, noting that the people have embraced the APC’s message of inclusiveness, economic reform, and national unity.

“Come 2027, Plateau State will stand firmly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We are committed to delivering our fair share of votes because this government has created space for all Nigerians,” the governor added.

Welcoming the governor into the party, the National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, described Mutfwang’s defection as a major boost to the party’s strength in the North-Central region. He said the APC remains the only truly national party capable of uniting Nigeria’s diverse peoples.

Governor Mutfwang’s decision confirms that the APC is the political home for leaders who believe in unity, progress, and good governance. Plateau State is now fully reintegrated into the mainstream of national development,” Nentawe stated.

Also speaking, Vice President Kashim Shettima praised the governor’s courage and political foresight, noting that President Tinubu’s administration has deliberately pursued policies that accommodate all regions and groups.

“This administration belongs to all Nigerians. Governor Mutfwang’s entry into the APC is a clear signal that the party remains open, inclusive, and focused on building a stronger nation,” Shettima said.

Other party leaders present at the event projected a strong electoral outing for the APC in Plateau State in 2027, expressing confidence that the governor’s grassroots appeal and leadership will galvanize massive support for the party and the Tinubu presidency.

With Governor Mutfwang’s formal induction into the APC, political watchers say Plateau State is entering a new era of cooperation with the federal government. The development is widely seen as a strategic consolidation of APC’s influence in the North-Central zone and a clear statement of intent ahead of the next general elections.
