Sunday Garba Biggs Emerges as PDP Gubernatorial Consensus Candidate for Plateau 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State on Thursday, 28th May, 2026, held its Governorship Primaries Election and affirmation of its consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections. The event, which took place at the Sarau Event Centre, Jos, brought together party leaders, stakeholders, delegates, youths, women groups, and supporters from across the 17 local government areas of the state in a show of unity and commitment to the party’s victory in 2027.

Present at the affirmation exercise were Barr. Mark Jacob, Chairman of the PDP Electoral Committee and former National Adviser of the PDP; Alhaji Alkali Yusuf, Secretary of the Committee; Mrs. Rakiya; Mr. Alexander; and Mr. Saleh Sule, alongside other party faithful and stakeholders.


In a welcome address, the Plateau State PDP Chairman, Hon. Raymond Dabo, stated that the gathering was convened to formally ratify the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election. He described Hon. Sunday Garba Biggs as a competent and experienced leader who understands the demands of governance and possesses the capacity to move Plateau State forward. According to him, “something big is coming to Plateau State through the PDP.”


Hon. Dabo appreciated the Electoral Committee Chairman, Barr. Mark Jacob, and members of the committee for conducting a transparent and credible process. He further emphasized that all former aspirants had now become candidates of the party, stressing the need for unity and collective commitment towards reclaiming and strengthening the PDP across all levels in the state. He added that the PDP remains deeply rooted in the political identity of Plateau people, declaring that “PDP is in the DNA of Plateau people.”


Speaking further, the PDP State Secretary, Hon. Michael, explained that the purpose of the gathering was in line with Article 47 of the party constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act, which allow for the ratification and affirmation of a consensus candidate. He noted that the process reflected the democratic principles of dialogue, consultation, and mutual agreement among party stakeholders.

Consequently, Barr. Mark Jacob, speaking on behalf of the Electoral Committee, officially affirmed Hon. Sunday Garba Biggs as the PDP consensus governorship candidate for Plateau State. He stated that, by the authority vested in the committee and with the endorsement of PDP party executives, stakeholders and faithfuls from the 17 local government areas, the committee had confirmed the unanimous agreement reached by the party. He further declared that Hon. Sunday Garba Biggs, having satisfied all constitutional and electoral requirements of the PDP, stands affirmed as the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 election.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Garba Sunday Biggs expressed profound gratitude to the party leadership, fellow aspirants, supporters, youths, women, and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him. He described his emergence as a call to service, unity, sacrifice, and responsibility rather than personal ambition. He stressed the need for peace, dialogue, inclusiveness, and collective progress within the PDP family and Plateau State at large.

Hon. Biggs reaffirmed his commitment to purposeful leadership anchored on good governance, security, economic development, youth and women empowerment, improved healthcare, quality education, agricultural advancement, and infrastructural development. He assured the people of Plateau State that his administration, by the grace of God, would be guided by fairness, accountability, compassion, and dedication to the welfare of all citizens irrespective of tribe, religion, or political affiliation.

Delivering his goodwill message, Hon. Jidauna Dimka commended the PDP Electoral Committee for conducting a peaceful and credible affirmation process. He reiterated that Plateau State has remained a traditional stronghold of the PDP and expressed confidence that the people would once again stand firmly behind the party in the 2027 elections. According to him, the emergence of Hon. Sunday Garba Biggs has further strengthened the hope and confidence of the people in the PDP. He assured supporters that with unity, grassroots mobilization, and God’s guidance, the party would emerge victorious at the polls and return stronger than ever.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Raymond Dabo emphasized that the PDP remains one united family committed to peace, reconciliation, and victory. He urged party members to remain steadfast, focused, and supportive as preparations intensify towards the 2027 elections.

Also speaking, the Deputy PDP State Chairman, Engr. Tanko, appreciated the State Chairman for the opportunity given to all stakeholders to contribute towards the success of the process. He thanked the Electoral Committee and its members for their dedication and professionalism throughout the exercise. Engr. Tanko congratulated party members and candidates at various levels and expressed confidence that the PDP would record victory across the state in the 2027 elections. He concluded by stating that the anticipated victory would ultimately bring glory to God and greater progress to Plateau State.

The event ended on a note of unity, celebration, and renewed hope, as party faithful pledged their continued support and commitment towards ensuring the success of the PDP and its candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
