Hon. Dr. Sylvanus Mathew Kwarpo Disburses ₦30 Million Scholarship to 1,500 Mangu South Students, Prioritises Victims of Attacks and Persons Living with Disabilities

In a remarkable demonstration of his commitment to educational advancement, youth empowerment, and human capital development, the Member representing Mangu South Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Sylvanus Mathew Kwarpo, disbursed the sum of ₦30 million in scholarships to 1,500 students across Mangu South State Constituency. The beneficiaries, drawn from primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, include victims of the recent attacks in Mangu as well as persons living with disabilities. The scholarship presentation was held during the Ampang West Kook Cheer Dancing Competition organised in honour of the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, and later at the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Hall, Mangu.

Speaking on behalf of the Acting Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Scholarship Board and the Commissioner for Education, Mr. Gyang Victor Jang, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics of the Board, commended Hon. Kwarpo for his thoughtful and timely intervention in supporting the education of 1,500 students across Mangu South. He described the initiative as a reflection of the educational vision of Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who has not only increased scholarships for Plateau students studying in state-owned tertiary institutions but has also introduced foreign scholarship opportunities for indigent students from the state. According to him, investing in education is demanding and resource-intensive; however, its benefits are enduring and become evident in the years ahead. He therefore applauded Hon. Kwarpo for aligning with the governor’s people-centred vision and contributing meaningfully to educational development.

In his address, Hon. Dr. Sylvanus Mathew Kwarpo expressed appreciation to the representatives of the Plateau State Government, traditional rulers, community leaders, and other dignitaries present at the event. He particularly commended the unwavering support and visionary leadership of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang and acknowledged the contributions of leaders and stakeholders who have continually promoted the welfare of youths, women, farmers, and the people of Mangu South. He described the scholarship initiative as a significant investment in human capital development and a strategic intervention aimed at securing the future of the younger generation.
Furthermore, Hon. Kwarpo announced that the ₦30 million scholarship fund would support 1,500 students across the constituency, with some beneficiaries receiving full payment of their school fees while others would enjoy substantial support covering up to 80 per cent of their fees. He disclosed that tertiary institution students would receive at least ₦50,000 each, while special priority would be accorded to students affected by the recent crisis in Mangu and persons living with disabilities. Reaffirming his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy, he urged individuals and organisations to invest in the education of young people, stressing that every contribution towards a child’s education is an investment in the future and an act that attracts divine blessings.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Nehemiah Mutfwang, who symbolically presented the ₦50,000 scholarship award to tertiary institution students living with disabilities, prayed that the intervention would mark the beginning of success, victory, and academic excellence in the lives of the beneficiaries. He encouraged the students to remain focused on their studies and, in the future, extend similar gestures of kindness to younger generations. He equally expressed gratitude to Hon. Dr. Mathew Kwarpo for initiating the scholarship scheme and, in a generous demonstration of love and compassion, personally donated an additional ₦50,000 each to the beneficiaries living with disabilities.

The beneficiaries, overwhelmed by the gesture, expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Dr. Mathew Kwarpo and all those who contributed to the success of the initiative. They described the scholarship as a timely intervention that would ease the financial burden on their families and provide renewed hope for the pursuit of their academic aspirations. They prayed for God’s continued guidance, protection, and blessings upon the lawmaker and pledged to make judicious use of the opportunity by remaining committed to their studies and becoming responsible citizens who would, in turn, impact their communities positively.

The scholarship initiative stands as yet another testament to Hon. Dr. Silvanus Mathew Kwarpo’s unwavering dedication to educational development, inclusive governance, and the welfare of his constituents. Beyond the financial support, the intervention represents an investment in the future of Mangu South and reinforces the belief that education remains one of the most potent tools for rebuilding communities, restoring hope, and fostering sustainable development.
