Hon. Dr. Mathew Kwarpo Flags Off Scholarship Programme in Commemoration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s Three Years of Inclusive Leadership

In a move that underscores the transformative power of education as a tool for social recovery and community development, the Member representing Mangu South Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Kwarpo Mathew Sylvanus, has inaugurated a Scholarship Scheme Committee at his residence in Mangu. The initiative is aimed at widening access to education and empowering young people to become agents of positive change within the constituency.
The scholarship programme, which forms part of activities marking the third anniversary of the administration of Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, seeks to translate the government’s vision of inclusive governance and human capital development into tangible opportunities for vulnerable learners. Rather than being merely a commemorative gesture, the initiative represents an investment in the future of Mangu South by supporting educational aspirations across all levels of learning.

A major focus of the scheme is to address the educational disruptions caused by the recent crises in Mangu Local Government Area. The programme will prioritise students whose education has been adversely affected by the conflicts, as well as indigent but academically promising pupils and students in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions throughout the constituency. The initiative is therefore conceived as both an educational intervention and a pathway to healing, recovery, and social inclusion.
Speaking during the inauguration, Hon. Dr. Kwarpo Mathew Sylvanus described education as the foundation upon which resilient and prosperous societies are built. He noted that empowering young people through access to quality education remains one of the most enduring ways of breaking the cycle of poverty, restoring dignity to affected families, and creating opportunities for sustainable development. He reiterated his resolve to ensure that financial limitations and unfortunate circumstances do not deny deserving children the opportunity to pursue their dreams.
To guarantee the effective implementation of the programme, a committee comprising respected community leaders and representatives of key stakeholder groups was constituted. Dangkat Hashimu will serve as Chairman, while Dakos Godswill, National President of the National Association of Mwaghavul Students (NAMS), will serve as Secretary. Other members were drawn from organisations and groups including Balka Movement, APC Mangu LGA, MDA, MYM, PYC, TIM, and the Central Zone Coordinators, reflecting a broad-based and participatory approach.
The committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting a transparent, fair, and inclusive selection process that will ensure that the scholarship benefits genuinely deserving students. The initiative ultimately reinforces Hon. Dr. Kwarpo Mathew Sylvanus’ commitment to people-centred representation and demonstrates his determination to leverage education as a catalyst for rebuilding communities, empowering the youth, and advancing the developmental aspirations of Mangu South and Plateau State at large.
