“Through It All, I Have Learned to Trust in God”: Gov. Caleb Mutfwang Marks Three Years of Purposeful Leadership

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, alongside the Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo, marked three years in office with a thanksgiving service dedicated to God’s faithfulness, protection, guidance, and sustaining grace throughout their administration’s journey.

The thanksgiving service, held on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the COCIN Headquarters Church, Jos, drew a distinguished gathering of former governors, serving and former senators, ministers, members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, religious leaders, political stakeholders, and supporters from across Plateau State.

Addressing the congregation, Governor Mutfwang reflected on God’s divine intervention and preservation throughout his leadership journey, particularly during the 2023 electoral process, the legal challenges that threatened his mandate, and the persistent security concerns confronting the state. Quoting a popular hymn, he declared, “Through it all, I have learned to trust in Jesus; I have learned to trust in God. Through it all, I have learned to depend upon His Word,” emphasizing that the political and security challenges he encountered had only strengthened his faith and deepened his commitment to serving the people.

The Governor expressed profound appreciation to God for His mercy and unfailing support, noting that despite daunting obstacles, divine grace had enabled him to remain steadfast and emerge victorious. He also paid tribute to the people of Plateau State, especially women, youths, and children, whose prayers, sacrifices, faith, and solidarity during the period leading to the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his mandate remained unforgettable.

Reflecting on the administration’s achievements over the past three years, Governor Mutfwang highlighted notable progress across critical sectors of the state’s development agenda. He disclosed that over N16 billion had been paid in pensions and gratuities, while more than N4 billion had been expended on medical assistance for vulnerable and indigent citizens. According to him, substantial investments have also been made in transportation, healthcare, education, agriculture, tourism, water supply, and peacebuilding initiatives aimed at promoting unity, stability, and prosperity across the state.

Speaking passionately about the impact of government interventions, the Governor recalled the emotional moment when public water supply was restored to communities that had gone nearly two decades without access. “When I saw women dancing after water returned to communities that had gone nearly twenty years without public water supply, I shed tears. These are the images that push me on,” he said.

He further revealed that the Plateau Specialist Hospital now houses one of the best-equipped laboratories in the country, with standards that have earned recognition from the World Health Organization (WHO). He also commended the Plateau State Drugs and Medical Commodities Management Agency and the State Ambulance Service for their contributions toward strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.

Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his commitment to purposeful leadership and sustainable development, stressing that the successes recorded by his administration were made possible through God’s grace, the resilience of Plateau citizens, and the collective efforts of stakeholders. As the administration enters its fourth year, he called on citizens to remain united, prayerful, and committed to the shared vision of a peaceful, prosperous, and thriving Plateau State. He equally renewed his resolve to defend the heritage of the state, protect its people, and continue giving them a voice in governance.

Earlier in her remarks, Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo welcomed worshippers, political stakeholders, and guests to the thanksgiving service and thanked God for His faithfulness throughout the administration’s three-year journey. She also expressed gratitude to the people of Plateau State for entrusting the administration with the responsibility of restoring confidence in governance, healing divisions, and laying a strong foundation for peace and prosperity.

According to her, the government has made significant investments in infrastructure, particularly in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads neglected for decades, thereby improving connectivity, facilitating transportation, and stimulating economic activities across urban and rural communities. She added that deliberate interventions in healthcare, agriculture, education, tourism, water supply, and youth empowerment are steadily transforming lives and creating new opportunities for citizens.

Speaking on behalf of former governors, Rear Admiral Bitrus Atukum (Rtd.) commended Governor Mutfwang’s sincerity, dedication, and determination to transform Plateau State. He urged citizens to continue supporting and praying for the Governor, noting that meaningful development requires patience, sacrifice, and collective commitment. According to him, the administration’s achievements are evidence of a leadership genuinely committed to the welfare and progress of the people.

Also speaking, the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, represented by the Agwom Izere, His Royal Highness Da Isaac Wakili, applauded Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to peace, unity, and development. He observed that the state had witnessed remarkable improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, transportation, and agriculture, while reaffirming the support of the traditional institution for the administration. The royal father also cautioned politicians against divisive rhetoric capable of undermining the state’s collective interest and urged citizens to sustain their support for the government’s transformation agenda.

Delivering the sermon, the Plateau State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Dunka Gomwalk, took his text from Psalm 3:1–8 and spoke on the theme, “Thanksgiving and the Call to Unity.” He encouraged believers to embrace a lifestyle of gratitude, noting that thanksgiving attracts God’s blessings and strengthens faith during challenging times.

Rev. Gomwalk commended Governor Mutfwang for returning to God in thanksgiving and observed that the administration has distinguished itself through prayer, resilience, and a renewed commitment to transforming Plateau State. He further noted the government’s consistent pursuit of peace and unity and called on citizens, irrespective of faith or ethnicity, to support efforts aimed at combating insecurity, insurgency, banditry, and other criminal activities.
“Plateau is under intense pressure from forces that seek to undermine our peace and progress. We must work together in unity to rewrite our story. What unites us must always be greater than what divides us. It is time to focus on the bigger picture and the future of our state,” he stated.

In separate goodwill messages, the President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo, and the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel C. Okoh, represented by the Vice President, Rev. Stephen Panya Baba, underscored the importance of thanksgiving, humility, peace, and faith in leadership. Archbishop Okoh particularly described Governor Mutfwang as a shining example of a committed Christian leader whose passion for the welfare and development of Plateau State remains evident in his style of leadership and service to the people.

The service culminated in special intercessory prayers for sustained peace, unity, and improved security across Plateau State. Clergy and worshippers also offered prayers for Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, asking God to grant him wisdom, strength, good health, and divine protection as he continues to provide purposeful leadership and advance the transformation of Plateau State.
