Plateau State Peace Building Agency Calls for Calm, Unity, and Collective Action
The Plateau State Peacebuilding Agency, PSPBA received the Sunday March 29, 2026 attack on Gari Ya Waye community of Angwan Rukuba in the Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State with shock and deep sadness. These killings that led to the loss of precious human lives is not only senseless and unprovoked but, a collective assault on the peace-loving people of Plateau State and, therefore stands condemned in its entirety.
PSPSBA commiserates with families of those who lost loved ones, the state government and all citizens of Plateau State over this unwarranted assault on our collective humanity. We equally wish those who sustained injuries quick recovery.
It is worth mentioning that this act of barbarism not only poses a threat to our hard-earned peace and security but, one that has the potential to mar the cordial relationships between and amongst the diverse ethno-religious groups living in harmony across the state, if left unchecked.
It is at this juncture that we commend the Plateau State Government and the security agencies for their swift response in imposing a 48-hour curfew on Jos North LGA as this will mitigate and halt further deterioration of the already-tensed atmosphere in the state capital.
We therefore call on all community leaders and other law abiding citizens to cooperate with security operatives to fish out those behind this attack on hapless Nigerians. This is not time for trading blames and spreading unfounded reports or speculation as this may further exacerbate the unfortunate situation. This is a time for collective action by citizens to fight against forces of evil threatening our collective peaceful coexistence.
PSPBA calls on the affected communities to remain calm as the government, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders have taken decisive measures to fish out the perpetrators of these attacks to make them face the full weight of the law to serve as deterrent to others who may be contemplating to carry out such heinous acts.
We urge citizens to particularly be wary of the kind of information they circulate on the social media because of its potential to aggravate the situation. Citizens should rather verify and authenticate sources of information before sharing them on any platform. It is our responsibility to ensure that Plateau State is not allowed to back slide to those harrowing days of wanton bloodletting. We must guard our peace jealously by making our communities safe, stable and secure. Let’s not despair because together we will build a Plateau State that is at peace with itself and rest of the world.
